    Dalgona Frothy Coffee

Dalgona Frothy Coffee. This creamy delicious iced latte is taking the world by storm! It's vegan and dairy-free. Made with 5 ingredients and takes very little time!

This dalgona coffee recipe become such a trend even though this iced latte has existed for a long time! Apparently Greece has their own version too called a Frappe Latte! However, the origin of "Dalgona" coffee comes from South Korea.

Since everyone is craving a nice latte but can't go out to buy one due to self-isolation, they are making it! So now you can have a dalgona coffee at home!

Watch how I made my dalgona coffee recipe!

    What is Dalgona coffee?

Dalgona Coffee is a cold latte that is made of cold milk with the frothy, smooth, almost fluffy coffee froth. It was inspired by the South Korean dalgona candy treat that is like a spongey toffee.

Why is it called Dalgona coffee?

The name Dalgona originates from the Korean sugar candy that looks like a spongy toffee candy. The coffee froth on top is supposed to resemble the texture of that candy.

How do you drink Dalgona coffee?

After making it, I actually like to mix the froth into the milk for an even and delicious taste!

    Dalgona Frothy Coffee

What if my dalgona coffee doesn't foam?

The trick to getting that foamy texture is using a fine granulated instant coffee powder with white granulated sugar and hot water. When you whisk the foam, make sure to tilt your bowl or cup on angle so air can fluff up that foam.

A lot of the recipes online show a super frothy coffee but depending on how fine your instant coffee mix is, it may not get to that frothy level. And if it doesn't, it's ok! It still tastes amazing!!!

What kind of instant coffee do I need?

Any kind will do but of course in Korea they use a Korean brand that is very fine which makes the froth very frothy!

I'm using a healthier version by Organic Traditions called Focus Fuel Coffee. It's less fine and has coconut palm sugar so it's more course and won't give you that extra frothy texture but still does the job!

It tastes amazing and actually contains mushrooms in it but you can barely taste it. This mix also contains omega-3s, MCT, and adaptogens. You can purchase it online and get 20% off if you join their newsletter. And no I'm not sponsored by them for this recipe!

Can I make dalgona coffee without sugar?

You can and substitute it with other healthier sweeteners. I've seen some other people use stevia and were even able to get it to foam!

Can I make dalgona coffee in a blender?

I haven't personally tried blending the coffee portion in a blender but I have seen videos where people have used blenders. And the result is pretty good!

Can I make Dalgona coffee with ground coffee?

No, unfortunately instant coffee is required.

    What makes Dalgona coffee Fluffy?

The sugar makes it fluffy similar to how you would add sugar to egg whites to achieve that meringue texture.

    Why Dalgona coffee is famous?

It's famous as it became a viral trend on TikTok. Everyone wanted to make this drink giving it wide social media coverage.

    Is Dalgona coffee healthy?

It depends on how much sugar or what type of sweetener you add. If you're making the traditional version with white granulated sugar then probably not. But if you substitute with a natural sweetener, then it can be healthy!

Is Dalgona coffee hot or cold?

    It's usually served cold.

    For this recipe

You will need the following dalgona coffee ingredients:

    • 1 cup ice cubes
    • 250 ml plant based milk of choice
    • Tw tbsp Instant Coffee Mix
    • 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar (For Less Sweet Version: Use ½ teaspoon sugar but it won't be as frothy)
    • 2 tbsp hot boiling water

    Required: electric whisk or whisk

How to make a dalgona coffee at home

    • In a tall glass, add instant coffee mix, sugar, and hot boiling water. Stir to dissolve.
    • Then using an electric whisk or mixer, whisk for 2 minutes until frothy.
    • In a separate glass filled with ice cubes, pour milk over top. Then pour frothy coffee over top. Enjoy!

    Equipment

You will need an electric whisk or frother for this recipe because trust me you do not want to be whisking this coffee 400 times until it's frothy.

You may try using a blender as well if you don't own a whisk or electric mixer.

    Give it a try!

Well I hope you give my Dalgona Frothy Coffee recipe a try! It always excites me when you guys make my recipes and I hope this is one you try.
