Pan-fried tofu is braised in a spicy, sweet, and savory sauce with garlic and scallions. This easy Korean braised tofu recipe is ready in just 20 minutes with minimal ingredients. Serve it as a side dish or main with steamed rice.
Drain as much liquid from the tofu package as possible. Slice the tofu into 2.5-inch-long rectangles about ⅓-inch thick.
Line a large baking sheet or large plate with paper towel and arrange the tofu in a single layer. Pat the tofu dry with more paper towel.
Evenly sprinkle salt over the tofu. Set aside for 10 minutes to draw out excess moisture. If the surface looks very wet, you can pat it dry again before frying.
Meanwhile, combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl until the sugar has fully dissolved.
Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the tofu in a single layer and pan-fry until golden, about 2-4 minutes per side.
Pour the sauce over the tofu and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and coats the tofu. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with green onions and serve with steamed rice.
