    Grilled Cheese with Onion Jam

Grilled Cheese with Onion Jam. This will probably be the best grilled cheese sandwich you have ever tasted! It is elevated in taste thanks to the simple strawberry jam and addition of green onions. It is not an Asian recipe but it was so good that I had to share this recipe on my blog so you can all try it out! Quick to make in under 10 minutes and great for lunch or a light dinner.

My husband and I were watching a YouTube video of a man crawling through an abandoned cave (stay with me I will get to the sandwich with this story). We often watch this youtuber because we find these abandoned caves somewhat fascinating (one time there was a haunted cave!). Once he came out of his cave, he then made lunch outdoors and it was this grilled cheese sandwich. So, all credits go to the YouTube channel called "Exploring Mines and Unusual Places" and his version of it. Click here for his video! When my husband made the sandwich for me to try, my eyes literally rolled to the back of my eye because this sandwich was so good.

The crispy toasted pan-fried bread with sweet jam on one side, ooey gooey melting white cheese in the middle with green onions to give it that sharp savoury taste. This sweet and savoury sandwich absolutely hits the spot, and I became so obsessed with it that I made it 5 more times ha-ha.

    Grilled Cheese with Onion Jam

    Easy to make!

This cheese and jam sandwich with green onion is super easy to make. It is your classic grilled cheese taken up a notch but instead of cheddar, use a white cheese. The white cheese compliments the jam and green onions better we have found.

First melt butter all over your hot pan. Then over low-medium heat, toast your bread. As it is toasting, spread strawberry jam on one side and melt two slices (must be two!) on the other side. Sprinkle finely chopped green onions on the cheesy side.

Then once both sides are toasted and the cheese is all melted, flip the jam side on top of the green onions and cheese. Press it down with a spatula, transfer to a plate, slice in half and enjoy. You can thank me later.

    Tips

Below are tips on making this gourmet grilled cheese with jam:

    • Use any bread of your choice but make sure it is quality bread.
    • Spread the jam onto one side of the bread first before toasting into the pan. This will make spreading much easier.
    • Melt the butter over low-medium heat and toast your bread over the same level of heat. Any higher and you will burn it.
    • Use two slices of cheese for ultra ooey gooey goodness! One is not enough especially to balance out the taste of the jam and onions.
    • Do not overdo it with the jam and green onions, 1 tablespoon of each ingredient is enough.
    • Allow that cheese to melt and for the bread to toast into a golden-brown colour, be patient.

But for real, this grilled cheese with onion jam sandwich is amazing! It reminds me of this little sandwich shop I used to go to by the lake!
