This dragon fruit smoothie features a blend of red dragon fruit, a variety of frozen berries, apple, banana, yogurt, milk of choice and maple syrup!
It's absolutely delicious, fruity and so refreshing for breakfast, as a snack or as a dessert! Perfect for hot summer days when you need something to cool off with.
Great whole family, especially the kids if you want to sneak in more color and fiber into their diets.
I'm using red dragon fruit which is known as "Dragon fruit Hylocereus". That's what gives this vibrant smoothie its color. But you can use any dragon fruit you enjoy!
Other dragon fruit breeds include white dragon fruit, red-flesh dragon fruit, pink dragon fruit and yellow skin dragonfruit. Tip: the best season to get in-season dragon fruit is the summer time!
Ingredients & Substitutes
You will need the following dragon fruit smoothie ingredients:
- Fresh Dragon Fruit (aka Pitaya): feel free to use any kind of ripe dragon fruit. I like using the red-skinned kind with the white flesh. Tip: to look for ripe dragon fruit, the skin colour is even and that there are no uneven blotches of colour. The fruit shouldn't be too firm or it's not ripe. However if the skin is soft and shrivelled that means it is overripe. Frozen dragon fruit will also work as a substitute.
- Frozen berry mix: feel free to use any frozen mix that contains either blackberries, blueberries, or raspberries. Or substitute with fresh berries if you prefer it less cold.
- Apple: any apple breed will work for this such as gala apple, honey crisp, red apple, fuji apples, etc.
- Frozen strawberries: or substitute with fresh strawberries if you prefer it less cold.
- Banana: ripe or unripened both work. Ripe ones will yield a sweeter smoothie. If you have frozen bananas, those work even better!
- Vanilla yogurt: or substitute with plain yogurt. If you're vegan, substitute with dairy-free vegan yogurt
- Milk of choice: like whole milk. If you're vegan, substitute with oat milk, almond milk or soy milk.
- Maple syrup: or sub with honey if you're not vegan.
- Ice cubes

Instructions
- Pour all the ingredients into a high power blender or food processor.
- Blend until smooth on low speed first and then increase to high speed.

- This is best enjoyed fresh or the smoothie will begin to separate but you can mix it up again.
- Leftover dragon fruit smoothie can last up to 1-2 days stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
