I love a good berry tonic beverage! It's a great drink to have especially when I'm at a party and I feel like a carbonated drink but not an alcoholic beverage. So I decided why not create something tasty and refreshing that will keep your thirst quenched.

This delicious tonic contains mixed berries, lemon juice, maple syrup, carbonated water and ice. This is a very simple drink to make at home with minimal ingredients with a blender or a food processor.

    Mixed Berry Tonic

If you don't have a certain berry or fruit, you can even swap it for a frozen fruit you enjoy, such as frozen mangos, citrus, lychee (just not banana). It's very versatile and you can't go wrong with this easy drink recipe!

    Ingredients & Substitutes

Please scroll down to below recipe card for exact measurements.

    • Frozen or Fresh Mixed berries: such as blueberries, raspberries, and/or strawberries. For purposes of ease, go for the frozen ones usually come packaged in the frozen section at your grocery store so you can skip washing or de-pitting the cherries. Or substitute with fresh berries if you wish.
    • Maple syrup: substitute with honey if you're not vegan, simple syrup or any liquid sweetener of your choice that you enjoy.
    • Lemon juice
    • Carbonated water: like tonic water or club soda. You can even use ginger ale but reduce the sweetener.
    • Ice cubes
    • Lemon slices or fresh mint: optional garnish

    Expert Tips

    • Use a high powder blender for a smooth fruit syrup. If you don't have one a food processor or grinding the fruits in a mortar and pestle will work too.
    • Blend the fruit syrup on high speed until smooth ensuring there are no large chunks or alternatively you can run the fruit syrup through a fine sieve to remove any chunks.
    • If you prefer not to make a large pitcher and would like to enjoy this drink on a daily basis, store the fruit syrup in a resealable jar as imaged below. Then when you want to enjoy a glass, add 1.5 tablespoon of syrup into a glass and pour 250 ml of carbonated water. Stir to mix. Enjoy!

    Instructions

Below are step-by-step instructions on how to make mixed berry tonic:

    1. In a blender or food processor, add fruits, maple syrup and lemon juice and blend until smooth. This is your fruit syrup.
    2. Pour the fruit syrup into a large pitcher. Add ice cubes, lemon slices and mint (optional).
    3. Pour carbonated water into pitcher and stir. Serve cold and enjoy!

    Storage

    • Leftover beverage or syrup will last up to 4-5 days stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
    • Freezer friendly? Only the syrup portion can be frozen in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months or until freezer burn shows. To enjoy, thaw the syrup in the fridge and add carbonated water.

    Pairing Suggestions

This refreshing mixed berry tonic serves well with:

    • fresh fruits
    • desserts like cake, cookies, pastries
    • ice cream, gelato, or frozen yogurt
    • savory appetizers or tapas
    • a savory meal

    FAQ

Can I make this in advance?

This can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To enjoy, reheat it in the microwave or in a pan on the stovetop on medium heat.

Can I use other fruits instead of berries?

Yes, mangos, lychees, de-pitted cherries, oranges or pineapples will work for this!
