    • 📖 Recipe

This smoked salmon cream cheese croissant features savory smoked salmon, soft cream cheese, fresh dill stuffed into a flakey croissant!

This easy sandwich idea is made with minimal ingredients and the flavors and textures compliment each other perfectly!

I almost questioned if I should even produce a recipe for it because it's so simple and requires little effort. But it was too good not to share!

    Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Croissant

I make this sandwich all the time when time is of the essence and I have some thawed smoked salmon in the fridge.

This sandwich is so satisfying, simple and easy making it great for a busy weeknight dinners or lunches. It's also a great way to add seafood into your diet.

    Ingredients

Please scroll down to below recipe card for exact measurements.

Ingredients to make Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Croissant
    • Fresh Regular-Sized Croissants: from your bakery and avoid using the mini kind.
    • Smoked Salmon: choose any smoked salmon that you enjoy on its own since it's a key ingredient. I like using smoked sockeye salmon for that vibrant color. You can find this at most grocery stores in the frozen seafood section.
    • Fresh Dill: source fresh, vibrant dill without any yellowing in the leaves.
    • Cream Cheese: you can use light cream cheese, regular cream cheese or herb-flavored cream cheese.
    • Black Pepper
    • Lemon Juice: to help soften the fishy taste of the smoked salmon.

    Expert Tips

    • Use fresh croissants, not stale ones! It's a no-brainer but since the croissants are the star ingredient, this is especially important.
    • Use good quality smoked salmon that you would enjoy on its own! This is the second key ingredient so make sure you're not using low quality smoked salmon.
    • Make sure the herbs are fresh! Fresh dill is usually vibrant in green and the leaves shouldn't be yellow.
    • Don't overstuff the sandwich with too much cream cheese. Just an even thin layer will be suffice or it'll be too creamy.
    • Use as much fresh dill as you desire! I love fresh dill so I like adding a lot.

    Instructions

Below are step-by-step instructions on how to make smoked salmon cream cheese croissant:

    1. Evenly slice each croissant into half. Transfer to serving plates.
    2. Evenly spread a thin layer of cream cheese onto the croissant halves.
    3. Lay two slices of smoked salmon into each croissant. Season the salmon with ⅛ teaspoon of black pepper per sandwich.
    4. Sprinkle fresh dill over the salmon.
    5. Squeeze ½ teaspoon lemon juice over the salmon in each sandwich. Cover the sandwich with the other slice of croissant and enjoy!

    Storage

    • Leftover sandwiches will last up to 2 days wrapped in plastic and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
    • Freezer-friendly? I don't recommend freezing these sandwiches as it's not recommended to re-freeze thawed smoked salmon.

    Pairing Suggestions

Smoked salmon cream cheese croissant serves well with:

    • other sandwiches like cucumber cream cheese sandwich, ham sandwich, egg salad sandwich, or tuna salad sandwich.
    • fresh sliced vegetables like carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower or cucumbers.
    • cured meats like salmon paté, liver paté, prosciutto, ham and more.
    • assortment of cheeses
    • crackers or bread

    FAQ

Can I make smoked salmon cheese croissants in advance?

Smoked salmon cheese croissants are best enjoyed fresh but they can be made up to 2 days in advance. Then stored in plastic wrap in an airtight container in the fridge. There's no need to reheat the sandwich as they can be enjoyed cold.

What can I do with the leftover dill?

Leftover dill can be frozen in a freezer-safe bag in the freezer and used up to 3 months.
